SHANGHAI, China, March 13, 2025 - Toshiba Electronic Components and Memory Devices Corporation (“Toshiba”) today announced the mass production of its gate driver IC[1]-“TB9103FTG” - for in-vehicle DC brush motor applications. -Typical applications include latch motors[2] and locking motors[3] for power rear doors and power sliding doors, as well as drive motors for power windows and power seats.

Figure. 1

With automotive components now largely electrified, the demand for motors and the number of motors integrated in vehicles is increasing. As the number of driver ICs used in motors increases, there is a preference for highly integrated and miniaturized system solutions. In addition, some motor applications do not require speed control, but only driver ICs with simple functions and performance.

The TB9103FTG provides optimized gate driver IC functionality and performance for DC brush motors that do not require speed control, opening the way for more compact designs. It features a built-in charge pump circuit [4] that ensures the voltage required to power the external MOSFETs of the drive motor. In addition, it has a gate monitoring function that prevents the generation of a through current by automatically controlling the gate signal output timing for the high and low side external MOSFETs. At the same time, the IC has a built-in sleep function to reduce power consumption during standby.

This new IC can be used as either a single-channel H-bridge or a dual-channel half-bridge. In addition to being used as a motor driver IC, it can be combined with external MOSFETs to replace mechanical relays and other mechanical switches, contributing to quieter operation and higher device reliability.

The TB9103FTG is available in a 4.0 mm × 4.0 mm (typical) VQFN24 package, which helps to reduce device size.

A reference design for “Automotive DC Brush Motor Control Circuit Using the TB9103FTG” is now available on Toshiba's website.

Toshiba will continue to expand its lineup of automotive motor driver ICs in the future, contributing to the electrification and increased safety of automotive equipment.
